Recipients of grants and development support of Forum RIDM's 19th edition

News

At the close of Forum RIDM, presented by Netflix, who's ended its 19th edition on November 22, a number of participants from the Doc Lab Montréal and Rough Cut Pitch cohorts were awarded grants and various types of support to help further the development of their documentary projects. The winners were announced at a closing ceremony attended by partners and participants.

 

As part of Doc Lab Montréal, presented by Warner Bros All Access Canada14 prizes and supports were offered to Canadian and international participants:

 

DOC LAB MONTRÉAL FEATURE DOCUMENTARIES 

OFFICE NATIONAL DU FILM DU CANADA (ONF) SUPPORT, presented by the NFB’s French-language documentary studio, will provide $5,000 in development support to Chadi Bennani for the project Au-delà des vagues

NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA (NFB) SUPPORT, presented by the English-language NFB studio – Quebec/Atlantic regions, will provide $5,000 in development support to Bryan Angarita and his producer Sahar Yousefi for the project The Bamboo Forest (Los Guaduales).

T&S COOP SUPPORT, offered by T&S Cooperative, which offers a 50% discount on subtitling services for a maximum value of $800, was awarded by the jury to filmmaker Widia Larivière and her producer Andrée-Anne Frenette for the project Geeks autochtones contre-attaquent.

ROYAL PHOTO SUPPORT, offered by Royal Photo, which offers a grant in the form of equipment rental services worth $2,500, was awarded by the jury to filmmaker Benoît Massé and his producer Frédérike Labelle, for Laurentides project

MAIN FILM SUPPORT, offered by Main Film, which offers $2,000 in film equipment rental services, $500 in cash and a one-year subscription to Main Film services, was awarded by the jury to filmmaker Widia Larivière and her producer Andrée-Anne Frenette for the project Geeks autochtones contre-attaquent.

CINEGROUND SUPPORT, a $5,000 post-production services package presented by CineGround, was awarded by the jury to filmmaker Bryan Angarita and his producer Sahar Yousefi for the project The Bamboo Forest (Los Guaduales).

ROGERS DOCUMENTARY FUND PRIZE of $1,000 in cash offered by Rogers was awarded to Justine Martin for the project Les Dimanches.

EURODOC PRIZE, offered by EURODOC, consisting of €700 in cash and a one-year membership to EURODOC, was awarded to filmmaker Janaina Wagner and her producer Clarissa Campolina for the project The Bag of the Night (A Mala da Noite).

FORUM RIDM PRIZE of $1,500 in cash offered by Forum RIDM was awarded to filmmaker Sumie Garcia and her producer Carlos Paz for the project Maps of post-truth.

The Doc Lab Montréal feature film jury was made up of Gugi Gumilang (Executive Director, In-Docs Doc By The Sea), Raul Niño Zambrano (Artistic Director, Sheffield DocFest) and Pauline David (Artistic and Executive Director, Festival en Ville).

 

DOC LAB MONTRÉAL SHORT FILMS

LUSSIER & KHOUZAM SUPPORT, offered by Lussier & Khouzam, which offers $1,000 in legal services, was given to Sarah Seené for the project Orbites.

VIDEOGRAPHE SUPPORT, offered by Vidéographe, which offers $500 in editing and digitization room rental services as well as a one-year membership to their services, was awarded by the jury to Amélie Barrette for the project Le déménagement

ROYAL PHOTO SUPPORT, offered by Royal Photo, which offers a grant in the form of equipment rental services worth $2,000, was awarded by the jury to filmmaker Ginger Le Pêcheur for the project Temporaire

L’INIS SUPPORT, offered by L’inis, worth $500 in the form of a gift certificate for training, was awarded by the jury to Isabelle Kanapé for the project Veillée funèbre en communauté.

SLA LOCATION SUPPORT, offered by SLA Location, worth $2,500 in filming equipment rental services, was awarded by the jury to Sarah Seené for the project Orbites.

The Doc Lab Montréal short film jury was composed of Aimé Majeau Beauchamp (filmmaker and representative for L'Inis), Rosie Charest (Executive Director and sales manager, Travelling Distribution) and Yvonne Ashley Kouadjo (Series Producer, New York Times Op-Docs). 

 

Several Talent Lab participants from outside Montreal and Quebec will receive financial support through the PETER-WINTONICK TRAVEL GRANT, an initiative made possible by the generosity of the Canadian documentary community: Intuitive Pictures, Invisible Hand, EyeSteelFilmKensington CommunicationsJohn Walker ProductionsColonelle FilmsBunbury Films, and Cinema Politica.

 

ROUGH CUT PITCH

VITAL PRODUCTIONS AND HOT DOCS PRIZE, consisting of $1,500 in cash offered by Vital Productions and an Industry All Access accreditation for the 2024 edition of Hot Docs (worth $1,000) was awarded by the jury to filmmaker Kinga Michalska and producers Ashley Duong, Danae Elon and Paul Cadieux for the project Nolandia.

The Rough Cut Pitch jury was made up of Bérénice Hahn (Sales Agent, Square Eyes), Claire Lasolle (member of the selection committee, FIDMarseille) and Inti Cordera (DocsMX Executive Director).

  

This year, Forum RIDM is proud to bolster its support for emerging filmmakers from across the regions of Quebec (outside of metropolitan Montreal) with the TaCIC - TREMPLIN TERRITOIRES GRANT. In collaboration with TaCICFranC docBande SonimageSPIRA and Paraloeil, this regional project development grant was awarded to Clarissa Rebouças, for her project Alessia, who will receive complete and in-depth support throughout the various stages of creation of her documentary project.
