The Soirée de la relève Radio-Canada award goes to...

News

The soirée de la relève Radio-Canada is your chance to see short documentaries by Quebec’s next generation of filmmakers. Audiences will have the chance to watch films by newcomers who are set to become fixtures on our screens.
The prize offered by Radio-Canada is sponsorship for a television documentary, which will be broadcast by Radio-Canada on ICI Télé and, later, on ICI RDI. The filmmaker will be able to choose the subject for their documentary and the production studio and team they wish to work with, upon approval by Radio-Canada’s head of documentaries. The winner will be selected by a jury of documentary professionals. The films will also be available on ICI Tou.tv.

The Prize of the Soirée de la relève Radio-Canada goes to Aucéane Roux for Le vent du Sud.

Films of the soirée de la relève Radio-Canada

5:1
Sara Ben-Saud / Canada (Québec) / 2021 / 8 min / v.o. français s.-t. anglais
In a short film at once personal and universal, the filmmaker explores the family dynamics that unfolded during lockdown. A touching, aesthetically inspired piece.

Le vendeur de Broadway
Simon Larochelle/ Canada (Québec) / 2021 / 28 min / v.o. français / anglais s.-t. français
This fascinating short film follows a charismatic Québécois man who sells Christmas trees in Manhattan. An original outlook on New York society, matched by impressive storytelling and skillful editing.

Le vent du Sud
Aucéane Roux / Canada (Québec) / 2021 / 16 min / v.o. français / anglais s.-t. français ou anglais
The filmmaker examines the surprising transformation of a francophone village in northern Ontario, which had seemed destined for inevitable demographic decline. A film that reveals great narrative maturity.

Casting Nelly
Jérémie Picard / Canada (Québec) / 2021 / 16 min / v.o. français
In this film, we hear from a series of women auditioning for the role of Nelly Arcand; their lines, and their own words, are both powerful and insightful. With its straightforward yet original approach, this is a sensitive tribute to a great writer and to each of the women.

L’Innu du futur
Stéphane Nepton / Canada (Québec) / 2021 / 6 min / v.o. français s.-t. anglais
As Montreal rolls by in reverse, a man walks through the city, his mind a portal to the far-off land where his roots lie. An inspiring short film in which the poetry of words and the poetry of images intertwine with great eloquence.

Sœurs
Julia Zahar / Canada (Québec), France / 2021 / 18 min / v.o. français s.-t. français
This intimate work, whose delicate touch is deftly contrasted with the violence of its subject, explores the liberating power of creation. A moving and carefully constructed film, as devastating as it is hopeful.
