In this stylized atmospheric hybrid film, shot through the shifting light of Norrköping, Alf wanders between the life he has and the one he is expected to want. In his 40s and still living with his mother Monica, the diabolo performer drifts through a city shaped by industrial decline and sweeping cultural budget cuts. Their tender, yet misaligned mother-son relationship unfolds through routines, gestures and conversations that rarely meet, as she urges him toward a real job and independence, while he resists a world built around productivity and conformity. Evocative, moody music gives the images rhythm, while black-and-white 16 mm aesthetics lend the film a tactile, timeless quality, moving between diffused softness and stark shadows, transforming real spaces into a dreamlike landscape. Between fact and fiction, Doggerland reflects on cultural shifts, community and the fading possibility of a collective life in this Swedish city. (ME)
