In the north of Chile, an isolated community between the desert and the Pacific Ocean lives without electricity, relying mainly on what the sea provides. Placing herself at the heart of this community in search of freedom, the filmmaker offers a nuanced portrayal of their daily lives, solidarity and desire to live on the fringe, while seeking to give a voice to the region itself. Every year, the way of life and the ecosystem of this peaceful place—which face unavoidable challenges—are disrupted by large-scale military exercises conducted by the Chilean Navy. This external threat is skillfully shown at a distance through dynamic camerawork and editing, supported by a soundscape that helps convey its hostility. It is a masterfully crafted debut feature film that conveys, through a relationship built on respect and trust, an admirable shared resistance. (HSB)
