Loosely based on the literature of Jorge Luis Borges, this labyrinthine film distances itself from rational writing, distorting boundaries to shape a space-time continuum that follows its own poetic logic. Protagonists from five continents take charge of a sprawling narrative that constantly changes hue, while retaining an astonishing uniqueness. Situated somewhere between magic realism and documentary, this equally unusual and delightful work is both demanding and generous. (HSB)
