Set in the South Caucasus, Martin DiCicco's debut feature is a visually stunning exploration of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. Filmed over six years, the film stands as a beautiful testament to the region's unique geography, emphasizing the socio-political fractures and the territorial discord between Azerbaijan and Armenia. As the film drifts through the vast landscape, we witness labourers tirelessly laying tracks and station masters in solitary contemplation, each grappling with their dreams and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Through breathtaking compositions and voiceover narratives, DiCicco effectively encourages viewers to contemplate the unspoken history of the profound disconnects in these lands. (ME)
