Orpheus Vadim Kostrov

Орфей

Revered by some as the great new hope of Russian cinema, Vadim Kostrov’s minimalist new docu-fiction is a portrait of contemporary Russia through the perspective of artistically-oriented youth. Captured at summer’s end, Vadim visits his home in Nijni Taguil, an industrial city in the Urals, to see friends and former girlfriend Anya, who's a musician. Contemplative and wistful, they carry themselves with an air of detachment; absorbed by the desire to escape and for a destiny outside the confines of their work-dominated provincial town. In Orpheus, Kostrov makes his cinematic mark by keeping his images open and his camera takes sparse and long to observe and deliver with poetry unhindered moments from life. (Programming Collective)
