The Great Kind Mystery Ella Morton

Le Grand Mystère Gentil

Identity is closely tied to place and to the earth itself but is impacted by the politics at play. Through images altered at the source through distorted 16 mm and Super 8 film, Inuk and Mi’kmaq artist Amy Hull questions her relationship to Newfoundland, where she was born. Childhood memories narrated by the artist evoke nostalgia for carefree times, inevitably lost yet fondly remembered. These stories soon cede to deeper questions around the power of place and nature on each individual; environment, fauna, and flora being the prevailing forces in a space, despite our presence and our stories.
