International Short and Medium-Length Competition

Marungka Tjalatjunu (Dipped in Black) Matthew Thorne, Derik Lynch

Struggling to find his place in oppressive city life, queer Yankunytjatjara artist Derik Lynch returns to his hometown of Anangu in Apatula. As part of his healing process, he will perform Inma, a cultural and spiritual ceremony involving dance and song. The making of Marungka tjalatjunu (Dipped in Black), a docu-fiction and work of co-creation, is imbued with great respect and sincere listening. This film is a necessary assertion of narrative sovereignty too long denied. (HSB)
