Short and Medium-Length Competition

Loving in Between Jyoti Mistry

Multidisciplinary filmmaker Jyoti Mistry delivers a unconstrained and experimental short loosely inspired by a poem by Langston Hughes. In a remarkable feat of editing, the filmmaker combines digital animation, vocal performances, and film archives spanning almost a century of cinema history. The result is a celebration of the emancipatory power of queer eroticism, love and sexuality. With the images captured in Loving In Between long considered socially and culturally taboo, Mistry draws on new technologies to reimagine a future in which love—in all its forms—will prevail, a force transcending the traditional barriers and boxes of social norms.
