Made up of faded VHS images, Silence of Reason opens with a textual description of the discovery of the bodies of murdered Bosnian women who were unable to speak before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Composed of evidence from the “Foca Rape Camps” trial, such as audio recordings and transcriptions of survivors’ words, this research-creation bears witness to the wartime rapes and sexual slavery perpetrated by military, police, and paramilitary personnel during the Bosnian War (1992–1995). Over a blue cathode-ray screen background, depositions appear and disappear on videos and photos of the buildings where these sexual assaults took place, revealing the systematization of such violence.
