The Soldier's Lagoon Pablo Alvarez-Mesa

La Laguna del Soldado

In this second installment of a trilogy exploring the emblematic figure of Simon Bolivar in Colombia, Pablo Alvarez-Mesa takes a sophisticated, artistic look at the páramo and its history. This work, filmed in magnificent 16 mm colour film that lends a kind of timelessness to the images of this region, explores its social, political, and environmental realities through the words of environmentalists, Indigenous guardians, miners, and others connected to the area. Its resounding music adds a frenetic energy that seems to expose the violence and beauty buried through time in this unique ecosystem, The Soldier’s Lagoon unveils a visual and sonic exploration capable of expressing the intangibility of a complex region, where the future carries its memories as a legacy.
