Interceptés
In Interceptés, Oksana Karpovych juxtaposes stark, static visuals of Ukraine’s desolate landscapes of bombed buildings and ruined homes with intercepted phone calls recorded by Ukrainian intelligence. These calls capture conversations between Russian soldiers and their families from March to November 2022, revealing their fears and anger in unsettling casual cruelty. The contrast between the film’s chilling sound design, haunting imagery and raw, disturbing dialogue creates a jarring dissonance that amplifies the emotional weight of these exchanges. This striking portrait exposes the conflict’s impact on both the invaders and the devastated nation they leave behind, offering a profound reflection on the human cost of war. (ME)
