After several visits throughout his career, the bold Dr. Loran, the protagonist who co-directed Tristan Forever with Tobias Nölle, decides to start a new chapter of his life on a small island in the middle of the ocean. Tristan da Cunha is a fragile ecosystem with 230 inhabitants, and not just anyone can become a Tristanian. Settling there is a painstaking process. By combining subtle staging, intimate handheld camerawork and breathtaking shots of untamed nature, Nölle gently documents the challenges of adjusting to life on this island where wildlife is ever-present against a backdrop of magnificent landscapes—all while exploring Loran’s inner thoughts as he grapples with inevitable self-doubt.
