The unionization process is far from enchanting—but it can be intoxicating. By following the first unionization efforts of an Amazon warehouse in the US, Union provides a frank look at this gruelling, and even discouraging, process—especially when exercised, as it is here, outside the traditional union powerhouses. While Union shows the video evidence captured via smartphones of the entire anti-union arsenal deployed by the online retail giant, it also shows the camaraderie and solidarity of the activists, as well as their frustrations and disagreements, which reflect the unfortunate power dynamics we’re all too used to seeing. This combination provides a breathtaking overview of what motivates and demotivates activists, no matter how important their cause. (OM)
