From its first images, this film, shaped by an immersive sound design, explores the fine line between abstraction and realism. With subtlety and precision, the camera observes shafts of light piercing the darkness of night, the movements of nature and human actions. It gradually reveals the ecosystem that connects oysters with a community of fishers and oyster farmers on Cortes Island, British Columbia. Slowly, a human voice emerges with restraint amid a multitude of conversations about the realities of fishers and oyster farmers and the impact of global warming and ocean acidification on these mollusks and other marine life. Concrete Turned to Sand invites us to patiently observe and experience the transforming living conditions of all organisms in this ecosystem. (HSB)
