Four portraits of dissident artists intertwine to tell a story about exile, the fight and the power of writing. The words they put down on paper made them targets of the regime’s violence: attempted homicide, imprisonment, torture... Despite this repression, these authors couldn’t remain silent. In the face of this coercion, these writers had to weigh the pros and cons between staying and leaving, often without truly having a choice. Emigrants, in exile, they show the camera the new places they call home, haunted by their pasts. A fictional exhibition space displays the places they can no longer return to and recreates their memories. The protagonists recount their courage and their fear in order to finally be heard. (SCV)
