These Wild Cats

Des chats sauvages requires us, first and foremost, to open up to the tenderness of a man who has isolated himself from the world, but not his feelings. Martin doesn't hunt moose for trophies, but to feed his cats over the winter. The documentary filmmaker's discreet camera gives way to the protagonist and his confessions, made in private with his own camera—a video diary of sorts in which he testifies to his love for the feline menagerie with whom he shares his cabin, envious of their level of freedom, which he describes as divine. Peppered with visual explorations from hunting cameras, this portrait reveals a recluse who would rather write a love song to his best friend as a party gift than have to kill a magnificent beast.
