My Memory Is Full of Ghosts Anas Zawahri

Ma mémoire est pleine de fantômes

Anas Zawahri’s feature film depicts a profoundly moving portrait of Homs, a city ravaged by war in Syria. Delving into the enduring trauma faced by residents grappling with the immense losses of the Syrian civil war, Zawahri questions how it is possible to reconnect with a place so deeply scarred by suffering and pain. Through long, static shots of bombed-out buildings juxtaposed with scenes of daily life, the film masterfully reflects on the senselessness of war and the resilience of the human spirit. Poignant off-camera narratives reveal a community wrestling with a haunted past while tentatively rebuilding their lives amidst the ruins. This film stands as a testament to the enduring power of memory and the unyielding will to persevere. (ME)
