Filmmaker Alexis Kyle Mitchell, heir to a rare genetic disorder that worsens with each generation, delivers an experimental, intimate, and poetic work. Subtle and touching, the film explores the many facets of this disease, exploring themes of repetition and fatality in both image and sound. The inescapable spiral of the disorder generates distortion and disability, forcing each person to find their own way of living, to build a life within otherness, and to accept that their genetic line is heading down a dead-end path. Above all, The Treasury of Human Inheritance celebrates a family unit bound together by destiny, where the family becomes both its greatest strength and the source of its greatest weakness. (MB)
