Adieu Ugarit
Mohamad Awad witnessed the murder of his best friend by an armed militia in Syria. Now a refugee in Quebec, his voice-over tells this horror story, and more broadly, the story of his migration punctuated by violence and grief, revealing a deep wound. Through a narrative process that demystifies filming and deconstructs the interview model, this experimental short questions how and why we tell this traumatic story. An inspiring co-creation by Mohamad Awad and Samy Benammar, this poetic work, filmed in timeless, grainy black and white, explores the role and importance of sensitive encounters, genuine listening, and creation.
