Short and Medium-Length Competition

Six Knots Ali Vanderkruyk

Many spiritual symbols and characteristics are associated with whales. Their independent character, two-hundred-year lifespan, and colossal build all contribute to the fascination they hold for human beings. They symbolize all the mysteries and majesty of nature. This mystical zone between the immensity of animal nature and the desire for human understanding and archiving is what is explored in Six Knots. By following cetacean conservationists, the scientific approach and theoretical angle of their profession meet a poetry and spirituality where we can question the space between the gaze and the object it observes—and sometimes possesses.
