Beneath Which Rivers Flow Ali Yahya

Rooted in the daily lives of Ibrahim and his family, who live in the marshlands of southern Iraq, Beneath Which Rivers Flow goes beyond documentary expectations to create a profound and imaginative narrative. The young man wanders amidst the rivers and reeds, accompanied by a buffalo, his faithful companion. One day, a thick fog blankets and transforms the land. As the landscape deteriorates, strong visual metaphors and an emotional approach that resists intellectualization bring humanity to the forefront. An allegory emerges from this delicate and speculative prism that highlights the many consequences of extractive colonialism and climate change on the human, natural, and geographical landscapes that form Ibrahim's reality.
