Short and Medium-Length Competition

09/05/1982 Jorge Caballero, Camilo Restrepo

On what appears to be a damaged reel with rather eclectic content, a voice recounts the “official” version of events concerning violence directed at a popular uprising in an unnamed country on May 9, 1982. This credible narrative is accompanied by images that gradually cast doubt on their veracity and an intriguing reflection on memory and recollection, forcing us to question the truth and the use of artificial intelligence in video and film production. With humour and subtlety, this short by Jorge Caballero and Camilo Restrepo urges us to be wary and warns us of the dangers lurking in our understanding of the world and history in this post-truth era marked by the rise of an authoritarian and unapologetic right wing.
