Where Do Birds Go When It Rains Juan Sebastian Sisa

Où vont les oiseaux quand il pleut

While filming a documentary in Páramo de la Sarna, Colombia, Juan Sebastián Sisa Archila was confronted with the violence that has struck the region. This moment also coincided with the onset of a disease affecting his optic nerve. From the synchronicity of these seemingly unrelated events, he weaves a philosophical link between his vision loss and the social darkness caused by this massacre, which was wrongly associated with the left-wing guerrilla movement and long unpunished. This reflection is affirmed in a visual exploration that draws its source and aesthetic inspiration from the effects and manifestations of the impacts of his eye problem. Narrated by the filmmaker, this film revisits legends and beliefs about local birds that bring bad luck, or even embody evil, to meditate on fear. (HSB)
