Short and Medium-Length Competition

Marratein, Marratein Julia Yezbick

Marratein, Marratein is a meditative exploration on identity and the echoes of diaspora across two cities: Beirut and Detroit. Shot on Super 8 to evoke the intimacy of family archives, the film weaves personal reflection with poetic voice-over, blurring the boundaries between memory and place. Its sequences echo and fold back on each other, doubling perspectives and questioning the perception of home and heritage. Juxtaposing the familiar with the foreign, the filmmaker contemplates how we connect to ancestral lands we may have never known firsthand and how belonging is both inherited and reimagined. (ME)
