Blending documentary aspects with fictionalized elements, Living Containers explores the intimate ways in which plastic frames our everyday lives. As science rushes to find solutions to the overwhelming accumulation of plastic in the environment, a young bioengineer works at a lab developing an enzyme able to break it down. As the days pass, she becomes increasingly consumed by the worm producing it. Mobilizing scientific ways of seeing and subverting them into a highly sensorial experience, Kara Ditte Hansen plays with the microscopic, blowing it up into surreal territory. Working through the tensions between eroticism and asceticism, as well as accumulation and degradation, Living Containers seeks to resolve the gap between organic and inorganic matter, inviting the viewer to feel through subjectivities foreign to them.
