In Izvoarele (The Other Spring), we follow the journey of artist and filmmaker Monica Maria Moraru as she returns to visit her family in Romania, where festivities are taking place in the village to commemorate the Great Deluge, the devastating event that flooded the entire region decades before. The past plays out between collective historical realities, hear-say and imagination. Through the repetition of secondhand reports, fabrications, televised news reports and industrial archives from the past, Moraru provides with precision and resonance a singular reflection on the mythologies we write, endorse and share, as well as our aimlessness, memory and the elements we remember for ourselves.
