Now living outside Peru, filmmaker Mayra Villavicencio wanders nostalgically through the streets of Lima on Google Street View as a voice gradually emerges, touting the increase in surveillance cameras in anticipation of protests in December 2022. She explores the video recordings made available online, while taking care not to expose the pain they contain, to confront the acts of violence and killings carried out with impunity by the police and the military forces. Villavicencio uses subtitles and the totality of her artistic practice to reflect on the roles, effects and circulation of these videos in the online world. As an act of reclaiming the images, she experiments with their content to break the cycle of endlessly rewatching the same images without anything ever changing. (HSB)
