Over the course of one night, twelve Black French activists and artists drive through the streets of Paris. In these cars, conversations emerge about the representation of their bodies and identities. The participants’ unfiltered lived experiences intersect with historical and philosophical perspectives, situating their realities within colonial and racist power structures. As these reflections address the invisibility of the body, the reflex to stereotype and the imposition of a white narrative on the subjectivity of Black people, a critique of French culture and media begins to take shape. Thus, the white gaze, the one that shapes and reproduces an imagined system of representation, and the one that looks at and makes the film, is confronted and challenged to transform itself. (MF)
