For its 27th edition, the RIDM turns its gaze to Mexico, a country whose cinema plunges us into the heart of a highly complex socio-political context, which is often relayed to us through the media, but superficially and with many blind spots.
Presented in collaboration with the DocsMX festival, this program offers a human perspective on the many realities affecting this vast country. A mosaic emerges through the eyes of the filmmakers, representing different facets of the human rights crisis sweeping the country, making documentary film a valuable tool for provoking thought among those seeking to better understand the issues.
The phenomenon of violence is difficult to grasp, and its current manifestation in Mexico is grounded in a complex set of circumstances. Although the consequences of organized crime and the war on drugs have been highly visible over the last 20 years, the wounds left behind in society are deep and difficult to heal. The torn social fabric not only reveals a difficult national reality, it also becomes fertile ground for an in-depth exploration of themes and characters who, through film, attempt to answer numerous questions.
The works presented in this program illustrate a rich variety of perspectives and aesthetic approaches, ranging from intimate family portraits to thought-provoking essays. Each film opens up spaces for dialogue about the present and future, examining the roots of violence or the responses of individuals working to preserve dignity amidst chaos. We invite audiences to delve into the intricacies of a society searching for its path in the face of adversity, while discovering the seeds of hope: the resistance and resilience of those who, at different levels, aspire to chart a course toward peace and justice.
