The documentary Disturbed Earth returns to Srebrenica, where the landscape still bears the scars of the 1995 genocide, during which nearly 8,000 Bosniak Muslims were massacred by Bosnian Serb forces. Through the perspectives of three survivors, the film explores a place where the past remains inscribed on both the land and the lives of those who survived. Rather than reconstructing the violence, the film observes the marks it has left behind: forests, fields, abandoned buildings, commemorations and disturbed earth. Archival footage shot by the perpetrators is interwoven with carefully composed images of the present, creating a complex dialogue between evidence, memory and place. Through a patient visual language, sparse textual fragments and an atmosphere of quiet unease, the film reveals how the past continues to shape the present. (ME)
