Western Balkans Focus : Blurring the Lines

I Have Never Been on an Airplane Redon Kika

For Tringa, Jeta and Atdhe, the outside world has always been near but inaccessible. Growing up in Kosovo, they have observed faraway places only from a distance, as visa restrictions have kept them within familiar borders. When they finally travel abroad for the first time, the experience upsets the images they have built of “elsewhere.” The film explores this process without reducing it to a story of departure. Through their conversations, steadfast bonds and changing perceptions, travel becomes a way of questioning what it means to belong to a space, imagine a viable future and become an adult. This tender, visually atmospheric film transforms a journey outward into an inward passage, depicting a portrait of youth, possibility and the fragile exhilaration of discovering that the world is larger than imagined.
