Workers' Wings Ilir Hasanaj

Ailes de travailleurs

In the darkness, a hand sifts through tall grass, guided by a flashlight’s narrow beam. A man’s voice speaks of his desire to prosper, comparing the struggle to move forward in life to a bird’s inability to fly with broken wings. From this imagery, Workers’ Wings follows three men whose professional lives were interrupted by workplace injuries. Milazim, Fatmir and Liridon recount the accidents and what followed while Hasanaj observes them in moments of conversation and quiet activity. Shot on 16 mm, the film brings construction sites, tools and machinery into tactile proximity, using contrasting hues and shifting colours to build an uneasy, atmospheric world. Between testimony and observation, the film conveys a quiet but powerful critique of social injustice, tracing the distance between wanting a future and being prevented from reaching it. (ME)
