At 76, Quirino is the last resident of a village in the heart of a Cabo Verde valley, where the waves crash mechanically against the slopes of volcanic mountains. His only connection to the world is an old radio broadcasting the echoes of distant news. Faced with the inevitability of aging and losing his autonomy, he is forced to leave the only place he has ever known. With its mesmerizing images and soundtrack, Omi Nobu, the New Man pays tribute to the brutality of nature, the fluidity of daily island life, and the magic of lasting memories. The filmmaker's respect for the passage of time is evident in every shot, delicately capturing Quirino's final moments while allowing the images to unfold at their own pace. (MAS)
