A woman literally inhabits a camera; a kind of symbolic huis-clos capable of accommodating the representations of war—or more broadly of violence—that manifest themselves off camera. Played by actress Élodie Vincent in a Brechtian style, this character perceives, describes, explains, and interprets these photographic, literary, cinematographic, and pictorial representations. Precisely written, produced and artfully directed, this film is meant as an allegory reflecting on the distinction between reality and the images produced, and on the manipulation of reality by images. Camilo Restrepo also questions the role of the camera and the power relationships it establishes in an extraordinary piece of political cinema with impressive aesthetic qualities. (HSB)
