In August 1471, a rooster was accused of laying eggs and, after a trial, was eventually executed in the village square. De Gallo Qui Ovavit uses this amusing and tragic story as the basis for a short history on rooster abnormalities through the ages, right up to the present day. Both an essay and an investigation, the film highlights, with humour and inventiveness, the absurdity of the reasoning adopted by certain authorities. Unfolding as a metaphor for the malleability of gender identity and expression, the work offers an incisive commentary on the dangers of the sophisms deeply rooted in certain discourses of authority and popular conceptions, underscoring the fragility of the foundations on which such reasoning rests.
