Short and Medium-Length Competition

Loveboard Felipe Casanova

A telephone is found buried in the snow. Its rescue by technical hands begins: it is opened—laid bare—its components displayed. Revealed through glitches and pixelation, the damage to text messages, photos, videos, and voicemails recorded on the device is representative of the break-up wounds they recount. The cellphone was a communication tool between Hugo and Henrik, but above all, it was a tool for preserving traces of their love. The enamoured bodies at the heart of a romantic relationship, like the materials of a telephone, create the immaterial: memories in the former, digital content in the latter. Loveboard, with its distinctive virtual aesthetic, underlines the fragility of what we often take for granted. (SCV)
