International Short and Medium-Length Competition

MIREN FELDER Malen Otaño

Troubled by the death of her grandmother Miren in a plane crash, filmmaker Malen Otaño examines her family archives in the form of a photographic essay to reveal their hidden meanings. The filmmaker's curious act becomes a ritual as she deciphers the meanings of the images and, in the process, the story of her grandmother, whom she never knew. The photographs, taken during the Fifth Brazilian Republic by her military grandfather, cast a glowing and prosperous light on the dictatorial regime. With its investigative and spiritual undertones, MIREN FELDER examines a family heritage that is difficult to accept, while coping with the grief still felt today. (MF)
