Flower and the Flood, The Elisa González

When floodwaters decimate the fields, a family of farmers sees their saffron crop washed away. Yet the Semá:th community also sees the flood uncover Semá:th Xó:tsa, a lake forcibly drained more than a century ago to convert the land into farmland. While the saffron farmers strive to revive their crop, children wander through a nearby garden, plant bulbs, observe insects and wonder what remains after we leave. Through the eco-processing of analogue film using plants, these three stories become intertwined, echoing and answering one another. The Flower and the Flood reveals a land that, despite everything imposed upon it, remembers. (NBB)
